Trouble in Bookland, Part One

For her thirteenth birthday, Writer Linda is taken to the Isle of Authors, focal point in the land of Dreams. While there, the Board of Authors, rulers of the land of Dreams, requests her presence.
They want her to visit a Patch, one of the many Published worlds of fiction: Bookland. The former Author of the Patch was Rejected for founding the world on revenge, and the Patch was put on hold until a suitable Writer could be found to take over and finish the story. Now it's active and burning away the surrounding Patches. The Authors themselves are unable to enter the world, as the Gateway to Bookland has been locked against them.
Linda must discover who has activated the Patch, and stop him or her before the entire Patchwork is destroyed.

About the length of a short story (16,209 words), this is the first installment of Linda's adventures. Written under the pen-name Marlene Simonette.

Trouble in Bookland (completed!)

This is Part One and Two of Trouble in Bookland combined, cleaned, and slightly altered.

It’s Linda’s 13th birthday, and she’s been given a rare treat: a visit to the Isle of Dreams. The floating isle in the sky, home to fictional Characters and maintained by the Board of Authors, is in danger. The Board of Authors asks Linda to help them figure out who is messing with the magic of the sky. Linda agrees, never dreaming that the answer would be so personal.

I don't have a word count at the moment, but Amazon says it's 204 pages long. Woot!

The Gift of a Madman

A family depends on the timely gifts from the mysterious White Mare, especially this winter; the mother is pregnant, and she's had a difficult time of it. But when the mare doesn't show, little Tranquility is determined to make things better for her family. She sets off into the forbidden area of the forest...

A short story set in the early days of Bookland, before the Conquering Flame and Linda's arrival. Written for a challenge  held on Tales from a Modern Bard.

Kallias the Broken

Kallias is a villain; he's conquered the city, and he will take what he is due. He sees a live form wandering the wreckage, and it's a boy. A boy that reminds him of himself.

A short story that inspired the character Kallias in a WIP. This particular event may happen at a later date in the story, it may not. Written for a challenge held on Tales from a Modern Bard.

How to Kill a Redhead

Anthelm is just a nervous college boy on a date with a night-shift librarian. What could go wrong?

Written for a contest held on Tales from a Modern Bard. The challenge was Plot Twist. My twist was, "Boy meets Girl—but they’re dead."
Set in the world of my Pet Project, Convoluted Chronicles.

The Spider and the Fairy

A short, original fairy tale, featuring two classic fairy tale creatures. What happens when a spider tries to outwit a fairy? Nothing good.

Written for a challenge held on Tales From A Modern Bard.

The Corruption

A short, original fairy tale, set in the world of Bookland, and told by Blue. The time of the tale itself is well before the arrival of the Conquering Flame, though the telling itself happens a little while after the events of "Trouble in Bookland." It is not necessary to read "Trouble in Bookland" to understand the tale, it just adds a bit of backstory to the world.

Written for a challenge held on Tales From a Modern Bard.
