I would eventually like to figure out how to get banners on here, but I'll have to save that for another day. The "about" information comes directly from their respective websites.

Space Boy
Artist: Stephen McCranie
Status: There are 225 Webtoons episodes, and the author has an active website (here), so I'm assuming the Webtoons is regularly updated. No clue what it is yet, will update once I find out.
About: A sci-fi drama of a high school aged girl who belongs in a different time, a boy possessed by emptiness as deep as space, an alien artifact, mysterious murder, and a love that crosses light years.
My thoughts: The main character has synesthesia. And it's consistent throughout the story. How cool is that? I was also surprised at how invested I became within the first few episodes. I didn't realize how invested I was until I cried when the characters cried. Great worldbuilding (futuristic alter-earth, cool/scary tech, lots of nations merged into new ones--Germexican, Vietnamerica, and other combos that are interesting to think about). Amazingly simplistic, recognizable, and moving art style (characters have shape motifs, and subtle tell-tales for emotion--the way the eyes are drawn, the background, the text boxes). So yeah, I recommend! There's some heavier content and scary situations later on, so I would advise younger readers to read with an adult/sibling. But, your child might be like Jemmah, so... XD
Hooves of Death
Artist: Sam Bragg
Status: Updates every Friday.
About: It’s the end of the world, and humanity is on its last legs against the zombie horde. Now, all that stands between mankind and total extinction are Commander Sprinkles, Blaze, Sergeant Glitter and a handful of other fierce warriors. Mythical creatures with supernatural powers and incredible determination, they have sworn to protect the human race. Yes, they are unicorns – but they are also our last hope.
My Thoughts: Love the mythology, legends, and other assorted fantasy elements. I also love that, while there are zombies, there isn't a lot of gore (gore is the main reason I dislike zombie stories/comics so much). The zombies are green, sometimes bones are showing and clothes have stains, but otherwise the violence/explosions are the same as Saturday-morning cartoons.
The characters develop, there's a lot of foreshadowing, and aaaaaaahhhh so much conflict.
My only complaint is that the sirens later on in the story are dressed in...well, not much at all, but hey they're sirens, what can you expect?
A slight warning: there is a suicide later on. There's a trigger warning at the beginning of the episode.

Stand Still, Stay Silent.
Artist: Minna Sundberg
Status: The first adventure is finished (21 chapters at around 900 pages!), and the second one is starting soon! Regularly updates four times a week (Mon, Tue, Thur, Fri).
About: "Stand Still. Stay Silent" is a post apocalyptic webcomic with elements from Nordic mythology, set 90 years in the future. It's mostly a story about friendship and exploring a forgotten world, with some horror, monsters and magic on the side.
My thoughts: Post-apocalyptic Nordic fantasy with light horror. What's not to like? The cast is amazing, they balance each other out so well (for the most part). And their character quirks! 💖
The monsters are horrific enough that I regret having binge-read 500 pages shortly before bedtime. However, their appearances aren't frequent. Most of the horror comes from the tension of "oh crud these things are everywhere when's the next one going to pop up?" And when they do pop up, they deliver. Big time. That being said, I'm not comfortable reading this where, say, my 11 year old sister could see it...
Numb
Arist: Niina Eveliina
Status: Updates on Wednesdays.
About: Numb is a mystery comic that brings together surreal horror, character driven drama and traditional watercolor art.
The story starts with Levi and Sue, childhood friends who have since grown apart. They attempt to meet again but right before Levi ends up in an accident that has something else behind it than just careless street crossing. Old strains are being brought up and something sinister is lurking around.
Also, the comic is done in watercolor, which gives it a unique vibe.
Extra!
Artist: Christy
Status: Active updates? (The site says Wed and Sat, but it's been three weeks and there's only been 2-3 new pages. She does, however, have 400+ pages sketched out on her DeviantArt profile. So if you don't want to wait for updates, head over there.)
About: EXTRA! is a story about Extras in a world where TV shows are everyday life. Ever in fear of getting killed off in a mass “accident”, two Extras are given the chance to go confront the Producer about stopping the exterminations…but it’s hard to topple society when you’re just an Extra!
Conceptualized in 2009 and started in 2012, Extra! has been chronicled in 6 (and counting) sketchbooks. Please Note: While the vast majority of EXTRA! is lighthearted and focused on a fun adventure, the comic does occasionally contain depictions of death, violence, torture, and other intense moments.
My thoughts: Roji is adorable and amazing. Xavier has problems and secrets. Alexis is sweet and I would love to see her get a job at an aquarium or pet store or something. Oh, there are also lots of shady things going on, fluffy animals, and poking fun at tropes. This is a story my sibs and I are reading aloud.
Gifts of Wandering Ice
Artist: Olga Makarova
Status: Active updates twice a week (Mon, Fri).
About: This comic's About page has illustrations to go with it. So check it out! The story's set in a beautiful post-apocalyptic world, with tense character relations and a really cool sci-fi/fantasy vibe.
My thoughts: This is primarily sci-fi, with a veil of fantasy over the Ice Gifts. It's a wonderful combination. I love the depth of the world-building and the unique black-and-white art style. This comic is translated from Russian, and while that makes the dialogue sound a little "off" sometimes, it really adds to the atmosphere of the comic.
Supervillainous
Artist: Zappit
Status: Finished (the entire comic arc has been completed, and while Zappit will be working on another project soon, there are no more updates for Supervillainous).
About: A comic following the villain Crimson Claw as he tries to juggle family and work.
My thoughts: This is hilarious. Tropes are both broken and reinforced in unexpected (or wonderfully expected) ways, and, just...read the first page. That first page sets the mood for the whole thing. However, there are enough adult jokes and violence that I'm uncomfortable sharing this with my younger siblings.
The Silver Eye
Artist: Laura Hollingsworth
Status: Active updates once a week (Fri), or more if the artist decides she wants to post more.
About: The Silver Eye is an action/adventure webcomic about a wealthy orphan and a vagrant king who have to unite to stop an out-of-control conqueror. The comic began in 2009 and had been plotted from start to finish.
My thoughts: Just check out the cast page. Once you've done that and read a couple chapters, take a peek at the character Q&A pages. The comment community is wonderful. This is another comic my sibs and I are reading aloud.
Bookwyrms
Artist: Lorena Garcia
Status: Active updates once a week (Thur).
About: Cwen City, Everstrom. Capital of the modern world. Home to Undine National Library, where the biggest collection of knowledge is gathered and looked after by experts in all fields.
Suzzen and Rogier —two teenage residents at the library— discover along with neurotic History expert Arabelia that books are being stolen and replaced by forged copies, which will lead them to begin a dangerous investigation. Meanwhile, Suzzen is researching about her parents, whom she barely remembers; and though she seems to be in the right place, she is having a hard time finding anyone who would tell her anything about them…
Bookwyrms is a young adult social fiction fantasy which focuses on the power of knowledge and its consequences, while exploring the characters’ development.
My thoughts: Aaaaahhhhhhhhh books and beautiful antique-looking color scheme and adventure!! Do I need to say anything else? 😜
Year in Hereafter
Artist: Mikael H.
Status: Active updates three times a week, (Mon, Wed, Fri) and currently running a crowdfunding on Indigogo.
About: "Year In Hereafter" is an indie fantasy webcomic inspired by the Finnish Folklore
and the Finnish national epic, Kalevala. The story resides in a few separate realities, one of them being our world and the modern age, and a fictional universe based on Kalevala's poetry and stories. This parallel world thus has been named to its namesake, known as the Northern Continent of Kalevala.
My thoughts: This has a lovely art style, similar to "Stand Still, Stay Silent." The characters--well, they make a hectic bunch. They're intriguing, even if Mikael (the character, not the artist) can get annoying at times... XD
My only qualm thus far is some slight cussing done by a character (Jaakko) that shows up in later chapters. He's part of another comic, Tistow. The reason I'm not giving "Tistow" its own heading is because it only has 43 pages, and the artist has announced that they're not entirely sure when they'll be able to start updating again. :(
Artist: Zules
Status: Active updates three times a week (Mon, Wed, Fri).
About: A sheltered rich girl dreams to see the world and finds her ticket in a mysterious, brooding drifter with a terrible secret: he is the King of Pain, bearer of the terrible curse known as Exvulnerum. As the two travel together, they encounter danger and magic, old friends and new foes...but the biggest obstacle will the unthinkable curse itself.
While a great deal of this comic is light-hearted and fun, it does deal with some serious themes and is not for children. This comic contains, will contain, or possibly will contain the following: suicide, blood, and physical and mental torture.
My thoughts: As stated in the description, this is not for children. I myself found the blood/suicide not overly detailed, due to the art style of the comic, but it was definitely a little darker/more detailed than what I typically like in visual entertainment (I just didn't linger on those pages). That being said, the mystery and character relationships had me eagerly hitting that "next" button. Read at your discretion.
